Sculptural Ceramics Course in Kyiv: Create Your Own Project

Bring a bigger idea to life at KUST. Make a tableware set of up to 8 pieces, a ceramic lamp, a vase up to 40 cm tall, a sculpture or a decorative wall panel up to 60 cm wide. Over five sessions, you’ll take your project from an initial sketch to glazing. You’ll agree on its scope and complexity with the instructor before starting.

The course is suitable both for beginners and for people who want to develop their sculpting skills. You’ll learn to work with volume, proportions and relief, join clay elements and choose a finish that suits your idea.

How the course works

First session — developing your idea and shaping the base, 2 hours

Discuss your project with the instructor, prepare a sketch and plan the stages of work. Choose a technique and begin shaping your piece or the first items in a ceramic set.

Second and third sessions — sculpting, 2 hours each

Build the main form and refine its volume, proportions and structure. The instructor will show you how to shape and join details, account for wall thickness and work with the needs of your chosen project, whether it’s tableware or a sculpture.

Fourth session — details and decoration, 2 hours

Complete the form, add textures, relief and decorative elements, and prepare the surface for drying.

Your work will then stay at the studio to dry slowly and receive its first firing. Once it’s ready, you can book the glazing session.

Fifth session — glazing, 3 hours

Choose a colour palette and learn about ceramic glazes and ways to apply them. With guidance from the instructor, you’ll decorate your piece to bring out its form, texture and details.

After glazing, the piece will receive its final firing. You can collect the finished ceramics from KUST or have them shipped by Nova Poshta.

If you wish, some sessions can be dedicated to working on the pottery wheel. Please arrange this with the instructor in advance.

KUST studio rules

• Pieces are stored for 3 months from the date of the first session.

• Please give at least 36 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Otherwise, your deposit or half the value of the gift certificate will be forfeited.

The sculptural ceramics course gift certificate is valid for 12 months and can be used at any KUST studio with advance booking.
