Sculptural Ceramics Course in Kyiv: From an Idea to Your Own Collection

Bring your ceramic project to life at KUST. Create a sculpture, vase, lamp, decorative object or a series of clay pieces. Over ten sessions, you’ll move from an initial sketch and building the form to refining the details and glazing your work.

The course is suitable for beginners and for anyone who wants to develop their sculpting skills. An instructor will help plan your project, choose suitable techniques and work through its structure, proportions and textures.

How the course works

First session — developing your idea and beginning to sculpt, 2 hours

Discuss your project with the instructor, make a sketch and plan the stages of work. Learn about the properties of clay and begin shaping your piece.

Sessions 2–7 — sculpting, 2 hours each

Gradually build the main form and refine its volume, proportions and structure. Learn to shape and join elements, work with wall thickness and bring your idea to life in clay. If you’re making a series of pieces, you’ll divide the time between the individual items and their details.

Session 8 — details and decoration, 2 hours

Complete the form and add relief, texture and decorative elements. With the instructor, prepare your work to dry.

The piece will then stay at the studio to dry slowly and receive its first firing. Once it’s ready, you can book the glazing sessions.

Sessions 9 and 10 — glazing, 3 hours each

Choose a colour palette and learn about ceramic glazes and ways to apply them. Two sessions give you time to work through the surface, details and colour combinations of your project.

After glazing, your work will receive its final firing. You can collect the finished ceramics from KUST or have them shipped by Nova Poshta.

If you wish, some sessions can be dedicated to learning pottery on the wheel. Please arrange this with the instructor in advance. After completing the course, you can continue working independently through KUST’s ceramic studio coworking programme.
