Ceramics Course in Kyiv: Hand-Building and Glazing

Bring your idea to life in clay over three classes at KUST. Create a small tableware set, vase, planter, sculpture or decorative piece, taking it from an initial sketch and hand-building through to glazing.

The course is suitable for beginners and for those who have worked with clay before. An instructor will help you plan the form, choose a technique and refine the details of your piece.

How the course works

Class 1 — Planning and hand-building, 2 hours

Discuss your idea with the instructor and prepare a sketch and work plan. Learn the basics of hand-building and create the initial form of your piece.

Class 2 — Sculpting and detailing, 2 hours

Complete the form, refine its proportions, and add texture, decoration and individual details with the instructor’s guidance.

Your piece will then stay at the studio to dry slowly and undergo its first firing. Once it is ready, you can book the glazing class.

Class 3 — Glazing, 3 hours

Learn about ceramic glazes and how to apply them, choose your colours and decorate your piece. The instructor will explain how to work with the glaze while taking the form of your piece into account.

After glazing, your piece will undergo a second firing. You can collect the finished work from KUST or arrange delivery by Nova Poshta.

If you wish, you can use one or more classes to learn wheel throwing, provided you arrange the programme with the instructor in advance.

KUST studio policies

• Works are stored for 3 months from the date of the first class.

• Please give at least 36 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Otherwise, the deposit or half the value of the gift certificate is forfeited.

The gift certificate for this ceramics course is valid for 12 months and can be used at any KUST studio with advance booking.
