When you find a rhythm with the material, every movement becomes part of a larger dance. At this ceramics workshop in Kyiv, you’ll create a stingray-shaped wall lamp by hand, bringing clay, colour and light together in one flowing form.

What will your stingray look like?

You decide on the character of your lamp: the shape of its wings and tail, the curve of its body, its surface texture, decorative details and openings for light. Your stingray can resemble a real ocean creature or become a fantastical one with graphic patterns, bright colours and details of your own.

How the workshop works

The first class lasts 4 hours and focuses on sculpting. With the help of a specially designed programme and supporting materials, you’ll build the base of the ceramic wall lamp, shape the stingray’s distinctive silhouette, refine its relief and prepare it to become a light fixture. Afterwards, your work will remain at the studio to dry slowly and undergo its first firing.

The second class lasts 2 hours and takes place approximately two weeks later. You’ll glaze your stingray, choose a colour palette and create decorative effects. The instructor will help you select glazes that bring out the movement of its form. After the final firing, the lamp will be fitted with electrical components and will be ready to install.
