At this ceramics workshop in Kyiv, you’ll create a three-dimensional animal head to display on a wall. Choose from seven designs: rhino, giraffe, unicorn, horse, bear, zebra or cheetah. You can make your piece as a ceramic wall sculpture or turn it into a functional wall lamp.

Which animal will you create?

Each animal has its own character. The rhino represents strength and determination; the giraffe, the desire to see further and reach new heights; the bear, power and calm; the unicorn, freedom of imagination; the horse, movement and independence; the zebra, bold self-expression; and the cheetah, speed and inner energy.

A plaster mould provides the basic anatomy, while you choose your animal’s expression, texture, decorative details and style.

How the workshop works

The first class lasts 4 hours and focuses on sculpting. You’ll learn to work with professional clay and plaster moulds and explore the basics of anatomy, sculpture and ceramic construction. With the instructor’s help, you’ll form the head of your chosen animal, sculpt its details and add decoration of your own. If you’re making a wall lamp, you’ll also prepare the structure and openings for light. Afterwards, your piece will remain at the studio to dry and undergo its first firing.

The second class lasts 2 hours and takes place no earlier than a week later. You’ll choose a colour palette and glaze your sculpture. The instructor will explain the properties of ceramic glazes and help you combine colours and create decorative effects. After the final firing, you can collect your piece from the studio or arrange delivery by Nova Poshta.
