At this ceramics workshop in Kyiv, you’ll create LIQUID, an abstract lamp and functional work of art with no predetermined shape. Over two classes, you’ll turn slabs of clay into a finished designer lamp.

What will your LIQUID look like?

You’ll build the lamp’s base from slabs of clay using a plaster mould. The mould provides only a starting volume, which you can transform freely into a coral, stalactite, unusual plant, organic structure or a form entirely of your own invention. LIQUID’s textured surface comes to life through spray glazing, colour transitions and the play of light.

How the workshop works

The first class lasts 3 hours and focuses on building a three-dimensional form from slabs of clay. Using a plaster mould, you’ll create the lamp shade’s base, securely join its parts, reshape the silhouette, and add texture, decorative details and openings for light. The instructor will help you bring your idea to life and prepare the piece to become a lamp. Afterwards, your work will remain at the studio to dry and undergo its first firing.

The second class lasts 2 hours and takes place no earlier than a week later. You’ll learn about ceramic glazes and apply a finish that brings out LIQUID’s relief. The form lends itself particularly well to spray glazing, gradients and layered colour combinations. After the second firing, the lamp will be fitted with a wooden base and electrical components.

The price includes two classes with an instructor, ceramic clay, glazes and other materials, use of the plaster mould and studio tools and equipment, personal protective equipment, two high-temperature firings, a wooden base, lamp holder, electrical fittings and an LED bulb.

The LIQUID Lamp workshop is suitable for beginners, experienced participants and anyone who enjoys contemporary object design, abstract ceramics and experimenting with form.
