At this ceramics workshop in Kyiv, you’ll create a ceramic hammerhead shark lamp by hand. Over two classes, you’ll take it from a recognisable shape in clay through glazing and turn your sculpture into a functional light.

What will your hammerhead shark look like?

You decide on the character of your lamp: the shape of its body and fins, the surface texture, decorative details, openings for light and colour palette. Your shark can be realistic, fantastical or wonderfully strange, with graphic patterns, bright details and a story of its own.

How the workshop works

The first class lasts 4 hours and focuses on sculpting. You’ll learn to build a three-dimensional form from slabs of clay, make and securely attach details, develop the silhouette and add graphic elements. The instructor will help you shape the hammerhead shark’s distinctive head, fins and body, and prepare the sculpture to become a lamp. Afterwards, your work will stay at the studio to dry and undergo its first firing.

The second class lasts 2 hours and takes place no earlier than two weeks later. You’ll choose colours and glaze your shark. The instructor will introduce you to ceramic glazes and help you create colour transitions, textures and decorative effects. After the final firing, you can collect your lamp from the studio or have it delivered by Nova Poshta.
