A Sperm Whale That Carries Light into the Deep

In this workshop, you’ll learn several sculptural techniques and create your own ceramic Sperm Whale Lamp. Our instructors, moulds and step-by-step process will help you bring it to life.

First session — sculpting, 4 hours. You’ll learn to work with clay slabs and coils, shape and decorate your whale, and join ceramic elements together. The session is broken into manageable steps, with guidance throughout. Afterwards, your whale will stay with us to dry and receive its first firing.

Second session — glazing, 2 hours. This takes place at least one week after the first. You’ll learn how to use ceramic glazes and explore their properties and effects. Then you’ll glaze your whale and leave it with us for its second firing.
